Networking Gone Wrong Series, Part 3

I’m so excited at the feedback received from this series and I’m so glad that you’re able to learn so much from our site.  I’m excited to hear how this series has helped you build more effective business relationships.

As we continue our series we continue to focus on how we fail to take ACTION when it comes to building your business.  The entrepreneurs who believe that if you build it and they will come days are gone.

Previously stated:

LISTEN

3. Don’t talk – just LISTEN.

I have to tell you this story about a sales introduction call with a marketing company this week.  The sales representative had a webinar presentation that was scheduled to begin at 10am.  As I listened to the products that he suggested, I realized about 15 minutes into his presentation that I was already doing much of what he suggested.   I realized that I was on the right track and would not necessarily need his services at this time.  I attempted to call his name several times as he continued with his presentation.  It was at this moment that I realized that he (unknowingly)  converted himself from having a conversation into sales presentation mode.  

The one thing that stood out the most to me was that he was not LISTENING to me.  I was sympathetically letting him know that I’m already utilizing much of his services. I share this story so you understand how important it is to actively listen when meeting a new prospective client or referral partner.

Life Lesson (Food for Thought):  Did you know that listening is actually a verb meaning that you actually have to put forth energy and effort? LOL
